Homemade Raw Bars

March has arrived and in keeping with my new years resolution I have been going to the gym on a more regular basis. That said, snack times have become more frequent too. It being winter as well...does not help. There is something about the colder months that make me want to cook and bake more and I have been spending alot more time in the kitchen...
So I have been looking into healthy alternatives and I found this recipe on Aimee Songs youtube channel and decided to give it a try... This is Aimee Song´s Raw Bar Recipe. If you are interested you can check it out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aeaKwvWA2c

Raw bars are a natural, healthy snack with no added sugar you can easily make at home to eat throughout the week. There is something so satisfying about them...and knowing that they are homemade is a bonus... I added nuts in mine as I love the extra crunch, but it is optional.

What you will need. These are the ingredients I used.
.Coconut oil
.Rolled oats
.Walnuts (but any kind of nut will do)
.Chia seeds ( I used just want I had on hand...in this case a mixed seed mixture with sesame, chia and sunflower seeds etc)
.Dates
.Coconut Flakes as a topping

Dates are a source of natural sugar and is what will blend the mixture all together. (Of course you will have to deseed them first and chop them up in smaller pieces.)

The first step is to make the granola which will require the use of an oven. Basically mix all the dry ingredients together with a good spoonful of coconut oil. Place them on a baking tray and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown in color.

Next chop up the dates, take out their seeds and add to the mixture.
Now I think this is the only hard part because muscle is involved. You will have to pound on the mixture until the dates have blended with the whole mixture. Basically until the whole mixture is coated with dates.
Once this has been accomplished place the mixture in a dish and top with the coconut flakes. Then place mixture in a freezer so as to harden...and then basically cut them up into even size bars.
It does not get any simpler than that!
I have to admit that I am quite satisfied with how they turned out, it being my first attempt and all. And they are delicious,to top it off...win win.
